Reining Saddle
Engineered for smooth communication, precise body control, and maximum rider stability during high-speed maneuvers, Syd Hill reining saddles give riders total control during sliding stops, rapid spins, and dynamic rollback transitions. Built around a close-contact tree with a low-profile pommel, narrow twist, and flat seat pocket, this collection is designed to keep your weight centered directly over the horse's balance point. Featuring butterfly-cut skirts, and time-tested refinements, our reining saddles deliver the close leg feel and structural stability required for the show arena and precise patterns.

How Does Reining Seat Geometry Support Sliding Stops and Fast Spins?
A reining saddle features a flatter seat pocket, a narrow twist, and a lower cantle compared to traditional stock saddles. This specific contour allows you to sit deep into your pelvis during a sliding stop, absorbing the horse’s forward momentum without being tipped out of position or pushed forward onto the pommel. During fast spins, the flatter seat gives you subtle lateral mobility to stay centered over the horse’s spine, while the low-profile horn stays completely out of the way of your rein hand and lower chest as you ride with a single hand on the reins.
How Does Tree Alignment Prevent Shoulder Restriction During Explosive Rollbacks?
When a reining horse executes an explosive rollback out of a sliding stop, the front legs drive upward and the shoulders rotate sharply. If the front bar angles on the tree are too narrow or flared incorrectly, the tree points dig directly into the scapular cartilage, causing the horse to shorten its stride or resist turning. A properly fitted reining tree features flared bars that match the horse’s shoulder angle, allowing full front-end clearance so the horse can lift its forehand, cross its legs cleanly in spins, and drive out of rollbacks with total freedom.
