A polo saddle is structurally specialized to meet the unique physical demands of polo, where riders must constantly rise, lean, and twist at high speeds:

Shallow, Open Seat: Unlike deep dressage or stock seats, a polo saddle features a flatter seat and lower cantle, allowing the rider to shift weight forward, stand in the stirrups, and turn freely in the seat during swings.
Reinforced, Flat Flap Design: The flaps are cut slightly forward and reinforced to withstand heavy stirrup pressure, providing a smooth, close-contact surface for direct leg communication without excess padding or bulky knee rolls.

Seat Mobility: The open seat profile allows you to transition effortlessly between a three-point position for traveling and a two-point stance for hitting, giving you total freedom to swing on both nearside and offside.

How Does Channel Width Adjustment Work Alongside the Changeable Gullet?

Swapping an iron gullet plate changes the angle and width of the tree points at the front of the saddle over the shoulders. However, the gullet plate alone does not change the width of the channel running down the center and rear of the back.

By combining an interchangeable front gullet plate with moveable panels, you achieve a complete custom fit. Changing the front plate sets the correct shoulder angle, while repositioning the panels customizes the bearing surface and spinal clearance along the entire length of the back. This dual-layer adjustability guarantees an accurate, comfortable fit that adapts seamlessly as your horse changes shape throughout its training and lifetime.
